Check out my presentation below (the website I uploaded it on doesn’t support the Powerpoint animation transitions, so that will be lost unless a video surfaces soon). I hope you love the Albert designs! NYU President John Sexton himself was there to view my presentation, loved the designs, and wanted them implemented as soon as possible! Hopefully ITS is willing to do so and we can all have an easier time using NYU Albert in the near future! Please feel free to share this article with friends to help raise some awareness of these designs and the need to remake the user experience and interface of Albert!
A splash page used for marketing the introduction of the new NYU Albert system.
The newly redesigned NYU Albert page. Super simple, easy to use, and most importantly, un-cluttered.
The announcements tab of the new Albert. Here students can see the most important information and get access to critical areas in Albert quickly.
The “My Academics” page where users can see all their grades (midterm and final) over any semester they want to. Simply choosing from the drop-down will lead students to their desired location quickly.
A visual, color-coded class schedule so students can see which classes they have when quickly and match classes together with a glance. Students can also set their viewing options with the drop-downs above the week-view.
The list shopping cart for the upcoming semester. Students can easily see their classes’ information at a glance and register with a click of a button (if their registration date is enabled).
The same information is displayed here as the above mock-up except that this list is visual in the form of the week-view so that students can see when they have classes without having to schedule everything in a separate calendar (or even on paper). Simplicity and easy-of-use are the key driving forces here.
The new and improved search feature in Albert! Imagine typing in something like “Classes that fulfill my core requirements with Professor X” and having all your classes show up immediately for you to check out with recommended classes that fit best with your schedule and location (based on classes already in your shopping cart). The shopping cart is also right on the side so students can see all the classes they want to take in one, simple place.
Finally, the detailed class view allows a student to view more information on a class that is new to them as well as see all the times that the class occurs with the Professor they requested (or with all the professors that teach the class).
